![]() ![]() The same applies to Dane Dehaan’s unsettling and edgy take on Harry Osborn, back from some time away. Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacey remain an inspired pairing trapped in a movie that never really feels like it’s about them. Which is a shame, because everything else is … not amazing. Paired with a costume that is even closer to the classic comics look than the one Tobey Maguire sported, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 serves up one of the best rendered big-screen Spideys to this day. The film is brimming with light and color, supercharged with a digital effects team that really knows how to make Spidey look, well, amazing. It might be overkill, but Marvel has pulled off good movies involving the three of them.Let’s start with what this movie does well. For Maguire, fans would love to see where his story arc goes since Spider-Man 3 did not end the franchise all too well. ![]() That's truly impressive on Garfield's part, given that the reception to The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was lukewarm at best despite Garfield doing his best with what he was given. They did such a good job that a fair amount of fans are pining for their own individual stories to be continued. They do this while not doing anything to take away from the arc that Holland goes through in the film. Both Maguire and Garfield come into their own with their own separate arcs in ways that not only help themselves and each other but also benefit Holland's Spider-Man. ![]() While detractors may say that bringing them back was nothing more than nostalgia-baiting, Spider-Man: No Way Home knew how to utilize Maguire and Garfield's return as their respective Spider-Mans so that it wasn't just a fanservice cameo. ![]()
